Home Made Corn Chips
We've been a little obsessed with making corn chips around here lately. Mainly because most of my tortillas have been a total fail, but also because they are so bloomin' yum and borderline addictive.
Making my own chips is never something I thought I'd do, considering a bag a reasonably natural ingredient containing chips can be bought for around $3 - $7 here (for the really schmancy ones), however after said tortillas became a bit of a pain in the bum to make and everyone in the family preferring the crunchier, less labour intensive version, we have been making these babies as a treat a fair bit.
We use olive oil and it's so nice to know and trust the ingredients + skip the side dish of health concerns that vegetable oils will potentially bring from store bought chips. I'm not saying we don't eat chips...they are by far my biggest weakness and I may or may not be munching on a few while I type this post.
Anyway...these chips - I strongly urge you to give them a crack as they really do taste more delish than normal corn chips. I also feel a lot better after eating them, so a win win.
Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups organic masa flour (either blue or yellow)
1 cup water
1 tsp salt
1/4 cup olive oil + more for brushing
Method:
Preheat oven to 200 degrees on fan bake
1. Mix ingredients together and knead well. Add more flour or water until a firm but slightly sticky dough is formed.
2. Split into 2 - 3 balls, then roll out super thin between baking paper or reusable silicone mats
3. Brush with olive oil, cut into whatever shapes, place on baking trays, then cook for 15 - 20 minutes until crispy
Enjoy with butter bean dip, guacamole or fresh salsa...
